The Ontario Curriculum at CIST
At the Canadian International School of Thailand (CIST), we follow the Ontario Curriculum, one of the most respected education frameworks in the world. Developed by the Ontario Ministry of Education in Canada, this curriculum provides a clear, consistent, and high-quality learning pathway from Kindergarten through Grade 12.
A Globally Recognised Curriculum
The Ontario Curriculum is research-based and internationally benchmarked. It is regularly reviewed to ensure it remains current, balanced, and relevant for today’s learners. At CIST, we bring this curriculum to life through engaging, student-centred learning experiences that reflect our diverse, international community while maintaining strong Canadian academic standards in subjects such as mathematics, science, technology, social studies and art.
How Learning Is Organised
Each subject is built around clearly defined learning expectations that describe what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. These expectations are organised into strands to support progression and clarity, but our teachers plan learning holistically, making meaningful connections across subject areas.
Students develop knowledge and skills progressively, building confidence and understanding as they move through the school.
Assessment That Supports Learning
Assessment at CIST is designed to support and improve student learning. Teachers use a variety of strategies to understand each child’s progress and provide timely, constructive feedback. Students are encouraged to set goals, reflect on their learning, and take increasing ownership of their growth.
Clear and Fair Evaluation
As part of how CIST applies the curriculum, from Grades KG to 12, all curriculum expectations are taught and assessed. Final evaluations focus on how well students demonstrate the overall expectations for each subject, ensuring a clear and balanced picture of achievement. Report cards reflect these overall expectations and provide families with consistent, transparent information about student progress.
Teachers use Ontario’s province-wide achievement charts to guide evaluation, ensuring consistency and fairness across all subjects.
Partnering With Families
We believe that strong home-school partnerships support student success. Families are welcome to explore the Ontario Curriculum as a guide to better understand what their child will learn and how progress is assessed. The curriculum is publicly available through the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Digital Curriculum Platform for Parents, which outlines learning expectations for all grades and subjects.
